What happened to Dan Towle?
 

I heard recently that Dan Towle left the Recovery a number of years ago? Is that true? If so, does anyone know what happened?

I'm rather surprised if this is true, esp considering how fiercely he defended WL during the turmoil of the late 80s and how strongly he criticized JI, JS, BM, or any others who opposed WL/LSM. He was even an FTTA trainer for awhile, if I remember correctly.

True. He´s gone, left for good. Big fallout. It´s been reported he has acknowledged how they have damaged so many people and how he regretted ever meeting Witness Lee.

Wow, thank you for the confirmation. It is especially somewhat surprising to me because I just finished watching the online video recording of the 1989 Elders training where WL was trying to do damage control with regard to the uprising/turmoil. Dan at one point stood up and gave a strong testimony supporting WL while essentially throwing JI under the bus.

I suppose it's better late than never to come to the light. I just hope he has made amends as best as possible to those he wrongly accused.

He was a long-time "leading brother" / elder from Fullerton, CA. Prominent during the New Move and was one of the main FTT trainers. Big-time supporter of WL and LSM. From what I saw firsthand as well as in the years after I left the LC, he always shamelessly defended WL and moved up in the ranks due to this "loyalty".

Dan headed up the DCP legal arm of the LSM business model. He defended the ministry thru all manner of trials.

Last saw Dan when he took part in the Whistler excommunication of Titus Chu and the Midwest region.

Perhaps that was the “straw” that broke his back. Not too long after that he left. His son posted some of the mental hardship Dan was going thru. Seems he had a “road to Damascus” change of heart.

Sorry to hear that....but if this mental hardship happened as a result of the Lord mercifully enlightening him (as you implied), then this is a praise.

His son was a friend of mine through the mid to late 80s, as I was in a nearby locality, and we are the same age.

From time to time, out of curiosity of what's going on in the LC these days, I occasionally watch snippets of videos from their various websites or on youtube, etc. It seems in recent years, most of the messages are from either Minoru Chen or Ron Kangas. Honestly, they both give out a general vibe of being depressed/stressed/unsatisfied, not at all people of joy or peace. I guess they've really been like that for many many years, but it seems even more apparent in recent times. Makes you wonder what exactly they are internally struggling with.

1.) The postings were just too revealing about DT, personal and family details and situations. Probably just an over-zealous opening up by Dan´s son who inadvertently was posting private stuff very publicly; so it was turning into a kind of a bad taste expose. The purpose of the stepping in was to make the son aware of that, and he did and stopped.

2.) In addition, yes, apparently LSM does have information on Dan and threatened to use it against him.
