Re: We should do something

I was in a LC started in the Great Migration out of Elden Hall. Many young families with children, dozens of them all told, and when I went back years later, they were all gone but maybe 2 out of...

Re: POLL: What is the Greatest Error of WL & LC?

I wanted to come back to this. WN started out getting trained in the Christian walk, by someone who'd given up on fellowship, who was so misunderstood that she went solo. WN got under her wing, and...

Re: We should do something

I suspect that there are thousands who grew up in the LR and left, totally unprepared for the world but determined not to look back, like Lot's wife. They do a search on the web, find this forum, see...

Re: POLL: What is the Greatest Error of WL & LC?

I agree with the above. The root cause is seen in Genesis 3: disobedience, sin, death. The rest of it, including WL creating his own ad hoc theology whose only consistency was that it consistently...

Re: We should do something

I guess it was the spring, maybe April of 2019, a couple named Greg and Joanna Casteel from Tennessee posted an open letter on facebook. "Dear saints in the Lord's Recovery..." Jo grew up in the LC,...

Re: We should do something

Thank you for the kindness.

More on Boyarin: I kind of missed my point. I was trying to say that for me, reading a non-Christian author using primarily Christian texts to make his case for "what...

Re: We should do something

I think that a non-apologetics book simply covering what happened, what people saw, what it was like, is potentially very powerful. One example that I like is a man named Daniel Boyarin. He is a Jew...

Re: I don't understand this forum

That's nice to know, but it was just a random moment frozen in time. I'm still waiting for my real name.

I feel like life is a discovery of who we are. A lot of that is discovering who we are not....

Re: We should do something

All but #5 are complete on the "Writings of former members" section of this forum. The Lily Hsu book is on Amazon.
"My unforgettable memories ". I read it on pdf that was passed around.

Btw, I...

Re: We should do something

It was one of the best books I ever read. Hands down.

The best just-the-facts accounts of the LC experience from former insiders are:

1. Indiana (Steve Isitt)
2. Hope (Don Rutledge)
3. John...

Re: I don't understand this forum

This is probably not a good forum to ask questions about God. If you ask, you will open up about 15 competing monologues. It really doesn't work very well. There is little discussion. Mostly people...

Re: POLL: What is the Greatest Error of WL & LC?

Looks like neither you nor Ohio understood, which is perhaps on me, because I tend to state my gut reaction or end point and then enumerate why, at least to my satisfaction. But it often doesn't...

Re: Shepherding Words "From The Co-Workers In The Lord's Recovery"

"Enjoying the riches"... James said, "If you are enjoying your riches, and your brother goes by, hungry and cold, and you say, 'Be blessed, be warmed and filled', what is your enjoyment, really?...

Re: We should do something

I have long felt that an easily accessible (e.g., Amazon.com for $7), comprehensive, scholarly/objective yet simple treatment of the LC would be beneficial. You find out your kid isn't coming home...

Re: POLL: What is the Greatest Error of WL & LC?

Forcing Gentile converts to adopt Jewish practices is different from the gospel given in the NT. But it's not the only gospel that is different. Suppose Paul had said, "I am the MOTA. Normal rules of...

Re: POLL: What is the Greatest Error of WL & LC?

I don't know about Frank Graham, but WL preached a different gospel. Anytime Matthew 18 principles are overturned and new principles like "drunken Noah" are inserted, it's a different gospel.

Re: POLL: What is the Greatest Error of WL & LC?

Those chairs were apparently a vehicle to "recover" or "restore" son Timothy's finances, post-DayStar Motorhomes. Timothy got a good deal on them, not sure anyone else did. But we'll never know,...

Re: POLL: What is the Greatest Error of WL & LC?

This one is right up there. The whole idea of a "restored" or "recovered" church. Look up "One True Church" or "Restored Church" or similar words on a Google search and you get dozens of hits. A lot...

Re: POLL: What is the Greatest Error of WL & LC?

The greatest error is to have respect of persons. We brothers liked the Witness Lee Mind Control Programme and Guanxi Network (WLMCPGN) because automatically half the members were inferior. Maybe we...

Re: Thoughts On The Libel Suit?

I've used this forum as a kind of therapy. Also I read a lot of books. Also, I learned at my job that people like me and appreciate me. And I took paid therapy several times, because I needed to...

Re: We should do something

I'm very glad to see some former LC church kids post here. The damage suffered to their humanity, growing up in that environment, was extensive. Most of them were so traumatized by it that they don't...

Re: Does anyone see a problem with this teaching?

Unbelievable. I can't believe any Christian minister would speak such a word.

"Repent and confess your sins to one another, unless of course you are Deputy God, and then you can't confess because...

Re: How Much To Throw Out?

I saw this played out repeatedly: freshly pulled off the college campus and now in the "brothers' house", I'd be invited to join an LC family for dinner. They'd chat of niceties, but at some point...

Re: How Much To Throw Out?

One thing I noticed is that WL and WN threw off the restraints of their Episcopal and Baptist upbringings and went 'local', then the early wave of Anglos in the US & Europe in the '70s likewise threw...

Re: Shepherding Words "From The Co-Workers In The Lord's Recovery"

Was Witness Lee being careful, or rather being cavalier, when he appointed his admittedly 'unspiritual' son into authority at the LSM office? And kept him there for years, even when it became plain...
