Hence the problem with a democracy. If we did this by popular vote the politicians would focus exclusively on cities where 2/3 of the US population lives. The top 10 cities in population would probably get 80% of their attention. New Hampshire and Iowa would become irrelevant and forgotten. It would be akin to the Hunger Games. Besides fiction is so bogus, instead of some girl winning because everyone else killed themselves leaving her relatively guilt free, the reality is she gets killed for her sins and the big contemptible bully wins which is much more realistic.

On the other hand if we did a parliamentary system we would always get a political insider as Prime Minister.

I think that now that we have the internet it is possible and practical to use referendums more and I think we should.
