I think requests for money should be broached this way:
"If you are helped by this ministry and think it could help others, please consider giving."Not: "If you fail to support this ministry, God's move on the earth will be hindered."In other words, do not use guilt and conviction to try to get someone to give directly to you. That's wrong, because it's an abuse of power. Now, any minister who is worth a dime is going to believe his or her ministry is doing God's work. Otherwise, why are they involved in it?! So, of course they'd think they are worthy of contributions, and will ask for them. Nothing wrong with that. But when you start working on people's guilt, or worse claim only your ministry can do the work that needs to be done, then you are in the area of abuse. And that's what Lee did. |
